From a
Frog... Sometimes in life you just get lucky. That was our case a few years ago after seeing a miniature donkey for the first time at a local show. It was decided then and there that after many years owning Quarter Horses, it was time to own a donkey! Shortly thereafter a shaggy, untrained, little donkey with a big heart arrived at our farm. To a Companion... After
a few weeks of halter training it was becoming clear that Poncho was special.
He has a genuine desire to please his handler and loves the praise
he gets after a training session. Here he is at about 16 months old standing
under our Quater Horse, Gus. To a Prince...
He
began limited cart training at eighteen months old and was shown successfully
in his first year. Here we are taking 6th place at the ADMS Nationals
in Shelbyville, Tennessee. To a King...
Today
Poncho holds numerous driving championships, competing not only against
other miniatures but large donkeys and mules as well. Some of his many
show ring accomplishments include halter (as a jack as well as a gelding),
in-hand trail, cart racing, coon jumping and showmanship winnings. Poncho
was Model Donkey this year at the South Carolina State Fair competing
against donkeys of all sizes. He was also Reserve High Point Donkey for
the second year in a row.
To a Lifelong
Friend... Training and showing can be a lot of hard work...it's always fun to take a day off just to have fun! Here we took a beautiful Sunday afternoon drive with our good friend Barb Grubb and her great little gelding, Sparky. Days like these are what makes it worthwhile. Pretty Poncho, Our Pride & Joy!

News Flash! Poncho wins Reserve Grand Champion Gelding and Reserve High Point Donkey at the Bedford County Fair in Shelbyville, Tennessee on August 21, 2004!!! 2004 SCSF Champion High Point Donkey. This little donkey is
like the energizer bunny...he just keeps going and going. He Won
the pleasuring driving class and then flew around the ring in the donkey
cart race to Win against all size donkeys.
This just goes on to prove that miniature donkeys
are capable, trainable and do learn different gaits. He can pleasure
drive like a champ, never missing a beat or breaking into a canter and
when asked to canter in a gaming class, without a whip, and with only
his trainers cue, he will fly!
